Being Reasonable and Humility

RE'ASON, v.t. (From Webster 1812)

1. To examine or discuss …

I reasoned the matter with my friend. When they are clearly discovered, well digested and well reasoned in every part, there is beauty in such a theory.

2. To persuade by reasoning … as, to reason one into a belief of truth; to reason one out of his plan; to reason down a passion.

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.

****

When Yeshua (Jesus) walked the earth He told us to "Listen" and in Revelation we read again and again "He who has an ear to hear let him listen." For most of us in this world it is difficult to pay attention. How can we hear (understand and reason) if we are not listening. Yeshua came to take away the sin of the world and humbly died to accomplish this. He paid the required price for our ransom. Yet He was our Creator. Andrew Murray in his book on humility gives some insight on our problem of listening and restoring the humility necessary for us have a relationship with YHVH (the LORD).

"Humility - the Journey toward holiness" - italicized quotes are from Andrew Murray:

The Purpose:

From Preface: (Paraphrased) When I truly see and know God in all His glory as Creator and Redeemer then I will understand what it is to be nothing so He can be everything to me.

Pg 16 "The life God bestows is imparted not once but each moment by the unceasing operation of His mighty Power."

"And so pride-the loss of humility-is the root of every sin and evil… In heaven and on earth, pride or self-exaltation is the very gateway to hell."

"And so it follows that nothing can save us but the restoration of our lost humility, the original and only true relationship of the creature to its God. And so Jesus came to bring humility back to earth, to make us partakers of it, and by it to save us."

Pg 17 "The life of those who are saved, the saints, must bear this stamp of deliverance from sin and full restoration to their original state; their whole relationship to God and to man marked by an all-pervading humility. Without this there can be no true abiding in God’s presence…"

"…lack of humility is the explanation of every defeat and failure."

Reasonable Beings: (The Key)

"God has so constituted us as reasonable beings that the greater the insight into the true nature or absolute need of a command, the quicker and more complete will be our obedience to it. The call to humility has been too little regarded in the church because its true nature and importance have been too little apprehended. It is not something that we bring to God, or that He bestows; it is simply the sense of entire nothingness that comes when we see how truly God is everything. When the creature realizes that this is a place of honor, and consents to be-with his will, his mind, and his affections-the vessel in which the life and glory of God are to work and manifest themselves, he sees that humility is simply acknowledging the truth of his position as creature and yielding to God His place."

Pg 18 "…That this humility is not something that will come of itself, but must be made the object of special desire, prayer, faith and practice."

The Humility of Yeshua (from Paul’s writings) :

Phil 2:5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

Phil 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Comment From Dale Cresap (Paraphrased)

Do you think of Yeshua’s death on the cross as a tragic misfortune? That would make Him a hapless victim. He made it clear that this was His mission from the first. He told His disciples in advance how He would die. Saying "…for this cause I came into the world …that no man takes my life from me, but I lay it down." He gave it as a deliberate and conscious act. This was necessary and only He could fulfill this mission. The eternal truth of this is demonstrated in the reference to Yeshua as the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. It occurred at a point in time but it was part of the master plan from the beginning and continues to be the pivotal point in all of history.

An application from nature as to our condition:

Pg 23 "No tree can grow except on the root from which it sprang. Through all its existence it can only live by the life that was in the seed that gave it being. The full apprehension of this truth in its application to the first and Second Adam cannot but help us to understand both the need and the nature of the redemption that is in Jesus."

The Need:

"When the Old Serpent, who had been cast out of heaven for his pride, whose whole nature was pride, spoke temptation into Eve’s ear, those words carried with them the very poison of hell. And when she listened, and yielded her desire and her will to the prospect of being like God, knowing good and evil, the poison entered into her soul, destroying forever that blessed humility and dependence upon God that would have been our everlasting inheritance and happiness. Her life and the life of the race that sprang from her became corrupted to its very root with that most terrible of sins and curses---Satan’s pride. All the wretchedness of which this world has been the scene, all its wars and bloodshed among the nations, all its selfishness and suffering, all its vain ambitions and jealousies, all its broken hearts and embittered lives, with all its daily unhappiness, have their origin in what this cursed pride-our own or that of others-has brought upon us. It is pride that made redemption necessary; it is from our pride that we need, above everything else, to be redeemed. And our insight into the need of redemption will largely depend upon our knowledge of the terrible nature of the power of pride that has entered our being."

Pg 24 "As we have said, no tree can grow except on the root from which it sprang. The pride that Satan brought from hell and whispered into the life of humankind is working daily, hourly, and with mighty power throughout the world. Men and women suffer from it; they fear and fight and flee it; and yet they don’t always know where it has come from or how it has gained such terrible supremacy. No wonder they don’t know how to overcome it. Pride has its root and strength in a spiritual power, outside of us as well as within us; as needful as it is that we confess and deplore it, it is satanic in origin. If this leads us to utter despair of ever conquering or casting it out, it will lead us all the sooner to the supernatural power in which alone our deliverance is to be found-the redemption of the Lamb of God. The hopeless struggle against the workings of self and pride within us may indeed become still more hopeless as we think of the power of darkness behind it; the utter despair will fit us better for realizing and accepting a power and a life outside of ourselves, the humility of heaven brought down by the Lamb of God to cast out Satan and his pride."

****

Paul’s View of Defeating the Dark Spiritual Powers:

Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Eph 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Eph 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints…

Eph 6:23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with a love incorruptible.

****

Pg 25 "Even as we need to look to the first Adam and his failure to know the power of sin within us, we need to know the Second Adam and His power to give us the life of humility as real as abiding and enabling as was the life of pride. We have our life from and in Christ even more certainly than from and in Adam. We are to walk "rooted in him, holding fast the head from whom the whole body increases with the increase of God " (Colossians 2). The life of God that entered human nature through the incarnation, is the root in which we are to stand and grow; it is the same almighty power that worked there, at the Cross, and onward to the Resurrection, which works daily in us. It is of the utmost importance that we study to know and trust the life that has been revealed in Christ as the life that is now ours, and waits for our consent to gain possession and mastery of our whole being."

Our Part:

Isaiah 1:16 "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight. Cease to do evil, 17 Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless; Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow. 18 Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.

His Promise:

2Chronicles 7:14 KJV If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Proverbs

Properly using our God given ability to reason:

Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Even so the sluggard also reasons:

Proverbs 20:4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

Proverbs 26:16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

However:

1Samuel 12:7 Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Saying (s)

"When an archer misses the mark, he turns and looks for the fault within himself. Failure to hit the bull’s eye is never the fault of the target. To improve your aim - improve yourself." Filbert Arland

When we have the wrong worldview or lack proper understanding through faulty reasoning we will miss the mark. When shooting an arrow the goal is to hit the bull’s eye; begin by challenging yourself to understand the Kingdom of God.

Solomon’s Prayer:

1Kgs 3:9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

YHVH’s Answer:

1Kgs 3:12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

Job 6:24 Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

Ps 19:12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

Ps 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

Humility

In our pursuit of humility:

(Lessons from humility and sin.)

"… it is not in daily sinning that the secret of humility is found, but rather in the position of dependence upon the grace of God. Our only place of blessing before God is among those whose highest joy is to confess that they are sinners saved by grace." Andrew Murray

So we rejoice in the grace of YHVH - He has provided the perfect Passover sacrifice for our sins. Our Redemption, our Peace, the grace of YHVH that empowers us to walk in the wholeness granted us by the Spirit of His presence which He implants in the our inner man.

Thank You Father and Yeshua our Savior.

The call to Repentance:

Matt 9:13 "But go and learn what this means, 'I desire compassion, and not sacrifice,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Luke 13:2 And He answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered this fate? 3 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

Luke 18:13 "But the tax-gatherer, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'

Luke 15:10 "In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Salvation made possible:

Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 5:19 For as through the one man's disobedience (Adam) the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One (Yeshua the second Adam) the many will be made righteous.

1Tim 1:15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

John 9:31 "We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing, and does His will, He hears him.

Jas 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Father, keep us ever humble; by daily experiencing Your redeeming love of forgiveness.

Prayer

Understanding the precepts of prayer.

There is so much we can learn by wisely and honestly pouring out our request before the Almighty. Solomon in 1Kings chapter 3 humbly asked for wisdom, which YHVH granted. Now in Chapter 8 Solomon offers up a dedication prayer for the New Temple. This prayer reveals the wisdom that had been granted him. As you read this prayer ask the Almighty to reveal to you His special instruction for your life today - may YHVH bless you.

1Kgs 8:2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves to King Solomon at the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. (Feast of Tabernacles)

1Kgs 8:14 Then the king faced about and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing. 15 And he said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel…

1Kgs 8:22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven. 23 And he said, "O LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like Thee in heaven above or on earth beneath, who art keeping covenant and showing lovingkindness to Thy servants who walk before Thee with all their heart…

1Kgs 8:26 "Now therefore, O God of Israel, let Thy word, I pray Thee, be confirmed which Thou hast spoken to Thy servant, my father David.

1Kgs 8:27 "But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain Thee, how much less this house which I have built! 28 Yet have regard to the prayer of Thy servant and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which Thy servant prays before Thee today; 29 that Thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, toward the place of which Thou hast said, 'My name shall be there,' to listen to the prayer which Thy servant shall pray toward this place. 30 And listen to the supplication of Thy servant and of Thy people Israel, when they pray toward this place; hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling place; hear and forgive. 31 If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath, and he comes and takes an oath before Thine altar in this house, 32 then hear Thou in heaven and act and judge Thy servants, condemning the wicked by bringing his way on his own head and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.

1Kgs 8:33 "When Thy people Israel are defeated before an enemy, because they have sinned against Thee, if they turn to Thee again and confess Thy name and pray and make supplication to Thee in this house, 34 then hear Thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of Thy people Israel, and bring them back to the land which Thou didst give to their fathers.

1Kgs 8:35 "When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain, because they have sinned against Thee, and they pray toward this place and confess Thy name and turn from their sin when Thou dost afflict them, 36 then hear Thou in heaven and forgive the sin of Thy servants and of Thy people Israel, indeed, teach them the good way in which they should walk. And send rain on Thy land, which Thou hast given Thy people for an inheritance.

1Kgs 8:37 "If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight or mildew, locust or grasshopper, if their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, 38 whatever prayer or supplication is made by any man or by all Thy people Israel, each knowing the affliction of his own heart, and spreading his hands toward this house; 39 then hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling place, and forgive and act and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart Thou knowest, for Thou alone dost know the hearts of all the sons of men, 40 that they may fear Thee all the days that they live in the land which Thou hast given to our fathers.

1Kgs 8:41 "Also concerning the foreigner who is not of Thy people Israel, when he comes from a far country for Thy name's sake 42 (for they will hear of Thy great name and Thy mighty hand, and of Thine outstretched arm); when he comes and prays toward this house, 43 hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to Thee, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know Thy name, to fear Thee, as do Thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by Thy name.

1Kgs 8:44 "When Thy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way Thou shalt send them, and they pray to the LORD toward the city which Thou hast chosen and the house which I have built for Thy name, 45 then hear in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

1Kgs 8:46 "When they sin against Thee (for there is no man who does not sin) and Thou art angry with them and dost deliver them to an enemy, so that they take them away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near; 47 if they take thought in the land where they have been taken captive, and repent and make supplication to Thee in the land of those who have taken them captive, saying, 'We have sinned and have committed iniquity, we have acted wickedly'; 48 if they return to Thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who have taken them captive, and pray to Thee toward their land which Thou hast given to their fathers, the city which Thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for Thy name; 49 then hear their prayer and their supplication in heaven Thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause, 50 and forgive Thy people who have sinned against Thee and all their transgressions which they have transgressed against Thee, and make them objects of compassion before those who have taken them captive, that they may have compassion on them 51 (for they are Thy people and Thine inheritance which Thou hast brought forth from Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace), 52 that Thine eyes may be open to the supplication of Thy servant and to the supplication of Thy people Israel, to listen to them whenever they call to Thee. 53 For Thou hast separated them from all the peoples of the earth as Thine inheritance, as Thou didst speak through Moses Thy servant, when Thou didst bring our fathers forth from Egypt, O Lord God."

1Kgs 8:54 And it came about that when Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and supplication to the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread toward heaven. 55 And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying, 56 "Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised; not one word has failed of all His good promise, which He promised through Moses His servant. 57 May the LORD our God be with us, as He was with our fathers; may He not leave us or forsake us, 58 that He may incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances, which He commanded our fathers. 59 And may these words of mine, with which I have made supplication before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, that He may maintain the cause of His servant and the cause of His people Israel, as each day requires, 60 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God; there is no one else.

Conclusion:

1Kgs 8:61 Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the LORD our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at this day."

Goals and Dreams

Goals should always point to completing or accomplishing a dream - otherwise they are just busy work that does not add to your life, your witness and testimony. They become drudgery, things to clutter up your life and suck your joy out of you. It is a choice to find the dream and plot out the goals. It takes work - but the benefits are worth it.

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keeps the law, happy is he.

HOOVER DAM BYPASS

Taking shape, the new bridge at the Hoover Dam

Creeping closer inch by inch - 900ft above the mighty Colorado River - the two sides of a bridge at the Hoover Dam in America slowly take shape. The bridge will carry a new section of US Route 93 past the bottleneck of the old road which can be seen twisting and winding around and across the dam itself. When complete, it will provide a new link between the states of Nevada and Arizona. In an incredible feat of engineering, the road will be supported on the two massive concrete arches which jut out of the rock face. The arches are made up of 53 individual sections - each 24ft long - which have been cast on-site and are being lifted into place using an improvised high-wire crane strung between temporary steel pylons.

Spectacular: The new Hoover Dam bypass

The arches will eventually measure more than 1,000ft across. At the moment, the structure looks like a traditional suspension bridge. But once the arches are complete, the suspending cables on each side will be removed. Extra vertical columns will then be installed on the arches to carry the road. The bridge has become known as the Hoover Dam bypass, although it is officially called the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, after a former governor of Nevada and an American Football player from Arizona who joined the US Army and was killed in Afghanistan. Work on the bridge started in 2005 and should finish next year. An estimated 17,000 cars and trucks will cross it every day.

The dam was started in 1931 and used enough concrete to build a road from New York to San Francisco. The stretch of water it created, Lake Mead, is 110 miles long and took six years to fill. The original road was opened at the same time as the famous dam in 1936.

The purpose of knowing future events as presented in the Word of God.

Luke 8:24 And they came to Him and woke Him up, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" And being aroused, He rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. 25 And He said to them, "Where is your faith?" …

"…all it took for Jesus to calm the windstorm and the waves beating into the boat and filling it were three simple words: "Peace, be still!"

It was after this that Jesus asked them a question that many believers should ask themselves today, ‘Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?’

Jesus did not ask His disciples why they had so little faith, or why their faith wasn’t strong enough, but rather He asked them why they had no faith at all. I realize I am not ingratiating myself to anyone by saying this, but it must be said, it is time some of us looked in the mirror and asked ourselves the same question Jesus asked of His disciples."

Messiah Reigns

For a child has been born to us, a son has been given us. And authority has settled on his shoulders. He has been named "The Mighty God is planning grace; the Eternal Father, a peaceable ruler." In token of abundant authority and of peace without limit upon David's throne and kingdom, that it may be firmly established in justice and in equity now and evermore. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts shall bring this to pass. (Isaiah 9:5, 6 [English 9:6, 7]; Jewish Publication Society, 1985)

Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Authorized Version

… While many consider the Messiah a legend, others continue to wait for his coming, something that the New Covenant Scriptures claim has already occurred. For some followers of Yeshua the fulfillment of Isaiah's words, though applying to Yeshua, are yet to be, which makes their view of his reign currently similar to those who deny that he is the Messiah at all.

But Yeshua is the Messiah, whose reign is currently far more like Isaiah's description than we tend to think. To deny this is to contradict Yeshua's own words when he said "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me" (Matthew 28:18). If this wasn't true, we would not see the reality of the God of Israel demonstrated throughout the world as we do. Since his coming countless people, Jews and Gentiles, have been rescued by him from the clutches of the kingdom of darkness. Messiah reigns indeed.

Psalm Promise

Psalm 30:11

Psalm 30:11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing; Thou hast loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness; 12 That my soul may sing praise to Thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to Thee forever.

Before we close this issue we should ask ourselves these questions - Has the Sacrifice of Yeshua truly turned our mourning into dancing? Can we truly sing His praises? Will we give thanks to YHVH forever? Do we have faith? Does Messiah reign in my life? We have been redeemed - We have been forgiven all our sins - if we have accepted Yeshua as our Savior we have been made sons of the living God - Therefore rejoice oh my soul.
