Deliverance

Ps 31:1 In Thee, O LORD, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed; In Thy righteousness deliver me. (NAS unless indicated)

Do you find yourself in some kind of bondage? If so you might appreciate what Yeshua has done for us. Scripture reveals YHVH’s plan to redeem us from our own way, our bondages to sin which will lead to death. The deliverance of Israel from Egyptian slavery is an example of how we can be delivered from our spiritual bondage to sin. However we are delivered to be the bond servants of Yeshua and that outcome will result in eternal life.

Rom 6:22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.

****

Recognize our need and cry out to God for deliverance:

Exod 2:23 Now it came about in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry for help because of their bondage rose up to God.

Exod 6:5 "And furthermore I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, because the Egyptians are holding them in bondage (5647); and I have remembered My covenant.

5647 Strong's: A primitive root; to work (in any sense); by implication to serve till (causatively) enslave etc.: - X be keep in bondage be bondmen bond-service compel …

Total KJV Occurrences: 288

TWOT entry: 1553: *

(‘ābad) work, serve.

slave, servant - work (Eccl 12:1) - labor, service - service (household servants) (Gen 26:14: Job 1:3) - servitude, bondage (Ezr 9:8, 9; Neh 9:17) - work (Job 34:25).

The etymology …its intensive stem meaning "to enslave, reduce to servitude."

When the service is offered to God, however, it is not bondage, but rather a joyous and liberating experience (Ex 3:12; 4:23; 7:16, 26; 10:26; Ps 22:31; Job 21:15; Jer 2:20; Mal 3:14).

YHVH is the Deliverer:

Exod 6:6 "Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, 'I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage. I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

Deliverance with purpose:

Ezra 9:9 "For we are slaves; yet in our bondage, our God has not forsaken us, but has extended lovingkindness to us ... to give us reviving to raise up the house of our God, to restore its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.

There is a spiritual bondage that leads to death:

Rom 7:14 For we know that the Law is spiritual; but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.

Rom 7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?

The answer is The Messiah:

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

The mind - set on self is bondage - set on the Spirit is life:

Rom 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so; 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

The Key - The Spirit of God:

Rom 8:9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you.

We have no obligation to the flesh:

Rom 8:12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh --

No spirit of slavery - But children of YHVH:

Rom 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.

The whole creation to be set free - to be delivered - released to the children of God:

Rom 8:19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility…21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

We await the final glorious redemption:

Rom 8:23 ...waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

Have no doubts:

Rom 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

Nothing shall separate us for the love of Messiah:

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

No bondage shall separate us from the love of God:

Rom 8:37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Delivered, Justified, Reconciled, Saved - Praise YHVH:

Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

Rom 5:10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Rom 5:11 And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

Free from sin but servants to A loving Master:

Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Dale Cresap: [Edited]

… You are bought with a price and you are not your own because you are [Yeshua’s] servant. Servants are not able to choose their assignments, but a wise and loving master will assign tasks suitable for the temperament and talents of the servant. Do you understand that [Yeshua is] such a master for you? If you like what you do, does it matter if you have to do it or not?

****

Forget the past - Look to our future in Yeshua Messiah:

Rom 5:21 that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We have Promises of Deliverance throughout Scripture:

Jer 15:21 "So I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked, And I will redeem you from the grasp of the violent."

Gal 1:4 who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us out of this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

1Thess 1:10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.

2Tim 4:18 The Lord will deliver me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Pray, then, this way:

Matt 6:9 … 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 10 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 'Give us this day our daily bread. 12 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen .'

Thy Kingdom come… Amen

Proverbs

The Kingdom of God is life eternal - the wisdom of Proverbs instruct us to seek this life.

Proverbs 3:13 How blessed is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding. 14 For its profit is better than the profit of silver, And its gain than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her. 16 Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor. 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, And all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who hold her fast.

Here we are admonished to seek that which is eternal. When we build on the foundation of our selfish desires we may become wealthy by earthly standards but not by the Eternal.

Proverbs 10:16 The wages of the righteous is life…

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life…

Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, That one may avoid the snares of death.

Wisdom and righteousness are the pathway to Kingdom and everlasting life.

O Eternal grant us Your wisdom, the righteousness of Yeshua, unto eternal life in Your Kingdom.

Saying (s)

There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation.  One is by the sword.  The other is by debt." - John Adams

Not only an enslaved nation but an enslaved individual also.

"In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." - Thomas Jefferson

Our constitution is not to be looked upon as bondage but the freedom to exist as an individual and as a nation.

Even death cannot keep us in bondage:

"My whole theology is this: There is only One Man who got Himself out of a hole in the ground, and, He promises me that if I will put my trust in Him, one day, He will get me out of a hole in the ground. So, I put my trust in Him, and that is my ‘Whole Theology.’" Angus Wootten

Let us not be in bondage to debt, to any man, or to death - the Almighty will deliver us.

Father, our hope is in the One who said, "Repent for the Kingdom of God is hand."

Humility

In our pursuit of humility:

(Lessons from humility and sin.)

"With Paul’s fresh reminder of having sinned in the past and his consciousness of being kept from sin daily, he was well aware of the power of sin that could overtake him without the daily presence and power of the indwelling Christ. I know that nothing good lives in me’ (Romans 7:18) describes the flesh as it is to the end. The glorious deliverance of Romans 8:2: Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death is neither the annihilation not the sanctification of the flesh, but a continuous victory given by the Spirit. As health expels disease, light swallows up darkness, and life conquers death, the indwelling Christ through the Spirit is the health, light, and life of the soul. But with this the conviction of helplessness tempers our faith with a sense of dependence that creates the proper humility in us and results in the greatest joy" Andrew Murray

Paul’s writhing shows how we have been in bondage to the law of sin and death. Praise YHVH we have victory over this bondage thru Yeshua - by the power of His Spirit.

****

Father keep us ever humble; You have delivered us and daily deliver us from the bondage of sin.

Prayer

Understanding the precepts of prayer.

Even Jeroboam, a wicked King of Israel that led the people of Elohim in great and grievous sin, witnessed a miracle of a loving God thru intercessory prayer.

1Kgs 13:1 Now behold, there came a man of God from Judah to Bethel by the word of the LORD, while Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense. 2 And he cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, "O altar, altar, thus says the LORD, 'Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and human bones shall be burned on you.'"3 Then he gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign which the LORD has spoken, 'Behold, the altar shall be split apart and the ashes which are on it shall be poured out.'"

1Kgs 13:4 Now it came about when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, that Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, "Seize him." But his hand which he stretched out against him dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself. 5 The altar also was split apart and the ashes were poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD. 6 And the king answered and said to the man of God, "Please entreat the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me." So the man of God entreated the LORD, and the king's hand was restored to him, and it became as it was before.

Despite the potential of losing his life the prophet prayed for the healing of this wicked king.

Are we so inclined to pray for those that have the power to stand in the way of our comfort?

Matt 5:44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you

Luke 6:28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

****

Father we need the love of Yeshua to rightly pray for all - Amen.

Heart of God

How does God feel about issues we face today?

Faith in Action

Jas 2:20 But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Everything is a choice. It is not enough to know a wrong or to recognize what needs to be done - follow through, doing what is right is necessary. All the good intentions in the world are not going to give God glory. Doing is. Faith without works is dead. Sin is lawlessness - not doing God’s instructions. Doing is very much a key. Do with all your might. Not worrying about wearing out for He can and will supply the strength and endurance if you start. You have to start though - choose to do something or God can’t use you. Learn, listen and do. You will not be perfect, God wants you to try, that is a heart decision, a point you make to engage. Do and be are the same. Who you are (be) is dependent on what you do and what you do is dependent on who you are. Circular. You can affect it for good or bad according to who you believe you are and what you choose to do.

Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Lighter Side

If You Could Take It With You …

A very wealthy man was lying on his death bed. He had worked so hard all his life to attain his great wealth that he hated the thought of leaving it all behind.

Suddenly he saw a bright light, and an angel appeared over his hospital bed.

"Please," the rich man said. "I tried to do so much good with the money I’ve made in my life-couldn’t I please bring some of it with me to Heaven?"

"You know the rules," the angel said. "You can’t take it with you."

"But I built roads and hospitals and schools all over the world!"

"Hmm…" The angel thought about it. "Well, maybe just this once."

So that man instructed his lawyer to liquidate as much of his accumulated wealth as possible and buy gold bars. When his time came, he had two heavy suitcases full of gold lying next to his hospital bed. Then, in a flash, he arrived at the Pearly Gates, a suitcase in each hand.

"What’s this?" asked St. Peter when he came out to process the man.

"The angel said I could bring this in with me," said the tycoon.

St. Peter opened the suitcases, saw the gold, and stared at the man in surprise. "Oh, You brought paving stones with you."

The Modern Church

95 Theses to the Modern Evangelical Church

by Greg Gordon - (founder of SermonIndex.net)

53. The phrase "accept Jesus as your personal Saviour" is not found in the Scriptures. (Rom 10:9-10; Col 1:13; Acts 26:20)

54. Evidence of true conversion does not seem important to modern day Christians. (1Jn 2:6; 1Jn 4:17; Mt 7:20)

55. Thousands of sinners think of God as having only one attribute: Love! But they continue in sin. (Rom 1:18; Acts 5:11; Ps 2:12)

Cause and Effect

Scribbles

(By Michael Boldea Jr.)

"I believe we are well on our way to seeing persecution in America, as the verbal hostilities against believers and faith in Christ have become common place and widely accepted. The jump from words to deeds is not as big as one might think, and the enemy has been effective in marginalizing and demonizing the household of faith.

"Seeing as we foresee the evil that is about to descend, and knowing ourselves as being prudent, one wonders where it is that we must hide ourselves. As children of God, we hide not in caves, or forests, clefts of rocks, or fallout shelters, our hiding place is not a geographical location, but rather our hiding place is Christ Jesus our Lord. The prudent man sees evil afar off, and hides himself deeper in Christ, for he knows that Jesus is the only refuge, and the only safe place.

"Though the world might grow chaotic, fearful and unstable, we remain joyful, at peace and comforted, for our lives are hidden with Christ in God."

Colossians 3:1-4

The Power of God's Word

The power of God's word is well-described by the writer of the New Covenant book of Hebrews:

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12; ESV).

We mustn't underestimate the power of God's word. Irrespective of how people respond, as we speak his word, he will pierce hearts. As we speak his word, people of influence will be called to account. As we speak his word, nations will be confronted with the reality of God and the Lordship of Messiah.

Psalm Promise

Psalm 31:1-3

Ps 31:1 In Thee, O LORD, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed; In Thy righteousness deliver me. 2 Incline Thine ear to me, rescue me quickly; Be Thou to me a rock of strength, A stronghold to save me. 3 For Thou art my rock and my fortress; For Thy name's sake Thou wilt lead me and guide me.

This Psalm (attributed to David) is a prime example of the confidence we can have if we allow YHVH to be our righteousness. He is our strength - relax and allow Him to work thru us - He has freed us from the bondage sin, the bondage of self and of Satan. Freed unto the service of the King and toward our neighbor - do so humbly.
