Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.

To Know Him

John 10:14 "… I know My own, and My own know Me,

How important is it to "Know Him"?

Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 8 which He lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things upon the earth… (All Scripture from the New American Standard Bible - NAS unless indicated - all bolding by MEM)

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me. 7 If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also…"

John 14:10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me; otherwise believe on account of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father.

John 10:7 Jesus therefore said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly.

All of mankind is in need of salvation. We must recognize our need to be delivered from this world of sin and darkness and to be transferred into the marvelous light of the Eternal’s Kingdom. We need to be aware of His grace, peace and forgiveness of being delivered from death unto life. This can only happen through Yeshua (Jesus). We must come to truly KNOW HIM, for there is no other way.

To truly know Him is to accept Him, to know His Word, to Love Him, Trust Him, Obey Him and have a firm loving relationship with Him. When we seek Him and His righteousness we are on the road to being transformed into His likeness; representing Him to others that they, likewise, may come to know Him.

To know Him is to become like Him - others will see Him in us.

Acts 4:13 Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John, and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were marveling, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.

Yeshua (Jesus) says:

Matt 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (And He, Yeshua, is the light of the world so how can we be a light w/o Him?)

John 13:35 "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Matt 7:20 "So then, you will know them by their fruits.

Therefore:

Rom 6:12 NLT Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to its lustful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become a tool of wickedness, to be used for sinning. Instead, give yourselves completely to God since you have been given new life. And use your whole body as a tool to do what is right for the glory of God.

In the last MEM we looked into the topic Mystery. The greatest mystery demonstrating the awesome love of Elohim is Messiah (Christ) in us the hope of the Kingdom of God.

Col 1:26 that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations; but has now been manifested to His saints, 27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mysterywhich is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Yet the world does not know Him

John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

How can we know that we know that He is dwelling in us?

1Cor 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

Do you have doubts or questions? Need understanding? Start a relationship with Him, Ask!

Matt 7:7 "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. 8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened.

Jas 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Luke 11:13 "… how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

Let us not be like the generation that was brought out of Egypt

Ps 95:10 "For forty years I loathed that generation, And said they are a people who err in their heart, And they do not know My ways.

Or like those that say….

Rev 3:17 'Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,

Why? Because

Matt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven… 22 Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' 23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'

7:21-23 By referring to Himself as Lord and depicting Himself as the ultimate Judge of humanity, Jesus asserted His deity. True disciples affirm Jesus' lordship, submit to His authority, and obey His commands. Jesus insisted that a person is confirmed as a true disciple not by prophecy, exorcism, or working miracles but by living a transformed life made possible by God. The disobedient lifestyles of evildoers are inconsistent with genuine discipleship. Jesus' words, I never knew you, show that these were never truly disciples. Holman Study Bible: NKJV Edition.

Yeshua tells us who will enter the Kingdom of Heaven

Matt 7:24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them…

Now these words of His were spoken at the end of what we call ‘The Sermon on the Mount’. One must read the whole of Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7 to understand this ‘Therefore’.

He will provide the grace (the Help) that we may Know Him

John 14:16 "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me; and he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him, and will disclose Myself to him."

John 15:14 "You are My friends, if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you. 17 This I command you, that you love one another.

Knowing Him is a relationship

John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;

John 17:3 "And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.

Yeshua is our Salvation! Amen

YHVH provide us the comfort, the grace, the peace of truly knowing we are at one with You.

Humility

In our pursuit of humility:

(Lessons from humility and exaltation)

"Recently I was asked the question, ‘How can I overcome my pride?’ The answer is simple. Two things are needed. Do what God says to do: humble yourself. Trust Him to do what He says He will do: He will exalt you." Andrew Murray

****

1Pet 5:5 … clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.

Father, simple as this might seem we need Your help; our exaltation is being made like Yeshua.

Prayer

Understanding the precepts of prayer.

Shine Forth

Asaph’s prayer is one of confidence, of being bold in calling upon The Shepherd

Ps 80:1 A Psalm of Asaph . Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, Thou who dost lead Joseph like a flock; Thou who art enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!

Ps 80:2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up Thy power, And come to save us!

Ps 80:3 O God, restore us, And cause Thy face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.

Ps 80:4 O LORD God of hosts, How long wilt Thou be angry with the prayer of Thy people?

Ps 80:5 Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, And Thou hast made them to drink tears in large measure.

Ps 80:6 Thou dost make us an object of contention to our neighbors; And our enemies laugh among themselves.

Ps 80:7 O God of hosts, restore us, And cause Thy face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.

The obvious need for prayer is recognizing our need for YHVH’s (The LORD’s) hand of restoration and having His face shine upon us - to know Him is to be like Him.

Numbers 6:23 "Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, 'Thus you shall bless the sons of Israel. You shall say to them: 24 The LORD bless you, and keep you; 25 The LORD make His face shine on you, And be gracious to you; 26 The LORD lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace.' 27 So they shall invoke My name on the sons of Israel, and I then will bless them."

****

YHVH, Yeshua is now our high Priest, our salvation, our light - therefore Your grace and peace is within.

Heart of God

How does God feel about issues we face today?

Knowing Directly

You know your personal acquaintances directly and you know famous people by reputation. These famous don't know you, and since you know them by hearsay and second-hand accounts it would be more accurate to say that you know about them. Yeshua came that you might have life, and this is life eternal, that you may know Him. It is not enough that you know about Him, for this is not intimate enough to be a saving knowledge. Let not your heart be troubled, for He has made himself available to you that the way is open for you to know Him directly. Unlike the famous people that you only know about, He knows you as well, and invites you to abide in Him.  (Adopted from a blog post by Dale Cresap)

You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.  (Jeremiah 29:13)

"And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.  (John 17:3)

Did you know?

The true Story

Everyone knows that Columbus commanded three ships when he first voyaged to the New World: the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Right?

Actually, according to a 1987 article in the Los Angeles Times, those weren’t the actual names of the ships that the intrepid explorer sailed on. They were nicknames. The Santa Maria’s real name was La Gallicia. The Nina was really the Santa Clara. The Pinta’s true name is unknown. The ships were built and supplied by the Spanish town called Palos as a punishment for offending the crown.

And you probably know that Columbus didn’t actually "prove" the world was round. By the 15th century, virtually all educated Europeans especially seagoing navigators knew the world wasn’t flat, though some uneducated folks probably still expected him to fall off the edge.

A Brother in Messiah

This e-mail is from a brother in Messiah. He is young, has a family and has just been stricken with ALS, a debilitating non curable disease by man’s standards. Our congregation is coming together to try to assist and we are being blessed by this families’ courage and example - we would like all to pray for his healing and follow his example. Please prayerfully read - how do we reflect the Almighty in our walk? In our families?

Keep On Rollin’

"So many of you have asked how you can help our family. We appreciate and love you all. After much consideration Anna and I have decided that the best way to help us is to honor the principles we believe are essential for happiness. During our marriage Anna and I have tried to make our relationships a priority, especially immediate family. People often joked that they rarely see us apart from each other. That was done on purpose! Aside from our relationship with God, our relationships are most important. When you leave this life all your family has left is the memories you have created together. They won't have fond and warm fuzzy memories of you at work all the time. They will remember the time you took out just for them."

"We have created a family challenge called Keep on Rollin. We want you to get together with your family and friends and go for a bike ride. Anywhere you want, for as far as you want. The challenge will take place September 13th-20th. That's a large window to make time for a few memories. Take pictures and post them on the FB page. That is what you can do for us, love God and love your families. We would also like you to share this challenge with everybody you know! We want to make this event as big as possible to send the message that families matter. If you would like to help even more we will soon be creating a Go Fund Me page for our family to help with some of our new and glorious expenses."

"I've been praying asking God what He wants me to do now. I felt impressed He was saying He wants to make Himself known. He wants to heal. Heal sickness, addictions, relationships, and sin. Sign me up Lord! I plan to take Him up on it. Take the time with your families, you never know when it will be gone. Keep on Rollin!"

The Love of God

Know God - Walk as He Walked

The Apostle John is pointedly clear about the subject of Knowing our God

1John 2:3 And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

1John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

1John 2:29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.

1John 3:6 No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him.

1John 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.

1John 3:16 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has the world's goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. 19 We shall know by this that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before Him, 20 in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22 and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

1John 3:23 And this is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. 24 And the one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And we know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

Cause and Effect

[Knowing God is a personal relationship with Him]

For the past few months various individuals have tried to draw me into the ever present debate of when. One after the other, they’ve tried to get my endorsement or in the least, my tacit acceptance of their theories regarding when certain events would take place, as though I am anyone special, or as though my acquiescence would give weight to their words.

Since the inquiries keep coming in, one more insistent than the last, I will make my position clear publicly, so as not to find out at a later date that someone said I’d said something I clearly did not say.

I believe God weaves the tapestry of history and time alike, and it is not an accidental or ad hoc thing. I believe God knows the end from the beginning. He knows the timing of all things, and I trust Him enough to not be bothered in the least by not knowing the finite detail of all that will occur.

Do I believe time is short? Most assuredly! Am I willing to throw out a random date and say because of this tangential event or that this will be the end of all things? No, I am not, and I don’t believe this is the calling of the children of God in any case.

I believe wholeheartedly God warns us of things to come, but we must be content with what He chooses to reveal to us, and not seek to know more than what was given us to Know.

God knows why what was given is limited, and why He chose not to reveal more than He did, and as His children, as those who have learned to trust Him as Abba Father, we must come to terms with the reality that we will never know everything.

Our concern, our drive, and our mission should be today, now, and what we can do for the Kingdom of God. Tomorrow will come whether I obsess over it or not. My worrying obsessively over tomorrow takes away from what I ought to be doing today, and it is one of those subtle ways by which we become less and less useful to the Kingdom.

Matt 6:33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. 34 "Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

These were words spoken by Jesus, and they are words we must take to heart lest we find ourselves in the desert of disobedience looking for a drink of anything to quench our parched souls. It is in those moments, when men wander from the pure and living waters of truth that they will settle for anything, and it is in that instant they are most susceptible to deceivers and deception.

Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and you will always be on solid ground, your footing will always be sure, and your soul will never thirst. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and you will always be at peace, you will always possess joy, and you will come to the blessed understanding that it is in doing these things that your safety is assured, and not in trying to figure out some date or other.

It is a liberating thing to be able to stand before God every morning and say, "I have done as You’ve commanded, and I trust You to see me through!"

I dare not imagine the consternation I would feel in my soul if I knew there was a chance that when I stood before God on that day of days He simply asked, "Where were you when you were supposed to be seeking My Kingdom? Why did you not redeem the time you were given and get closer to Me? Why was it that when trial did not abound your intimacy with Me did not grow, nor did you seek fellowship with Me?"

The purpose of the time we’ve been given is to seek His Kingdom and His righteousness, and nothing more. In doing these two things faithfully you will have encompassed everything from having a relationship with God, to helping one’s fellow man, to growing in Him, to understanding your purpose, to having hope and assurance, to living a life filled with peace and joy even in the face of the unknown.

If someone insists upon the idea that you must pour over the Coptic calendar, and Hebrew calendar, and Gregorian calendar, and Discordian calendar, and see where they intersect then extrapolate your own theory of some event or another taking place based on that intersection, they are lying, and what’s worse, keeping you from seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

We can have peace, only by being rooted in the giver of peace. We can have joy, only by being rooted in the giver of joy. We can have hope, only by being rooted in the essence of hope, and we can have life, only by being rooted in the life itself. Anything less will fail us at some point, and oftentimes that point is when we need it to hold up most.

Until pressure is applied every foundation seems stable. Once pressure is applied, only those foundations built upon the Rock will stand.

You are in my prayers and in my heart and I thank you for your continued support of this ministry and work. May you continue to seek His Kingdom and His righteousness, and may you walk in the light of the hope it brings.

Rev 3:11 'I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, in order that no one take your crown.

With love in Christ

Free from Shame
Fear not, for you will not be ashamed; be not confounded, for you will not be disgraced; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. (Isaiah 54:4; ESV)

Years ago a friend of mine who was a Bible translator and an expert in cross-cultural communication explained to me how some cultures are guilt based while others are shame based. It is common to confuse guilt and shame, but they are actually quite different. Understanding this difference can help us to learn to live free of both.

Guilt is the result of breaking a clearly defined law or rule. Guilt is usually accompanied by a fear of punishment at the hands of an authority of some kind. Taking a cookie when your mom or dad told you not to may result in guilt. A judge determines guilt based on whether or not you have broken the law. A person is either guilty or not. If found guilty, then a sentence of some kind would be given.

Shame is not so straightforward. Shame often comes from a deep internal sense of having done something unacceptable due to a sense of failure to measure up to certain standards or expectations. Guilt may be included, especially if a rule or law is broken, but not all rules carry the same level of shame and a rule doesn't need to be broken to experience shame. Shame is present when there is a perception that our behavior is such that we don't deserve to be accepted by those with whom we have relationship. That relationship could be family, friends, community group, work place, school, and so on. Shame often leads to a desire to hide from others. Embarrassment often comes from a sense of shame.

Shame is much more difficult to deal with than guilt. It is relatively easy to determine when a well-defined rule has been broken thus making someone guilty or not. Shame has more to do with perceptions, not facts. That perception may be influenced by right and wrong, but in a very vague way.

Western society, with a foundation upon the rule of law, has for the most part been guilt based. Our leaders sought to establish a way of life that had one clear standard for all people. In recent years moral issues have been more and more removed from our legal codes. Personal preferences and special interests influence and control morality more than objective legal standards. As a result, while we continue to use the language of a guilt-based society, we have largely become a shame-based society. The often felt heaviness of heart and turmoil of mind that we call guilt may actually be shame. We wonder what we have done wrong, but we no longer possess the moral clarity to determine guilt, and so we feel ashamed.

It may appear that the current casting off of traditional morality is devoid of shame. Immorality is flaunted and celebrated. But this can only occur where the legalities controlling these behaviors are no longer in force. What is actually being celebrated is the apparent freedom from guilt. Yet the intensity of the celebration as well as the violent attempt to silence detractors may be very well derived from the desire to cover shame.

The redefining of morality will never free us from shame, since at its most basic level it is due to our alienation from God. It was God's clarification of right and wrong through the giving of the Torah that enabled us to understand this alienation along with its resulting shame.

God desires to free us from shame. Through the Messiah God has dealt with not only our guilt but also our shame. Through Yeshua we can not only be forgiven, but also be set free from that nagging sense of shame that continues to heavily burden so many of us. Seeing our shame for what it is is the first step to our being free from it.

Psalm Promise

Ps 112:1-3

Praise the LORD! How blessed is the man who fears the LORD, Who greatly delights in His commandments.

His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.

Our blessings come from fearing YHVH - What does it mean to fear YHVH? - To fear is to reverence, honor, respect, and obey Him in His awesome loving kindness - He alone holds our future in His hands. Thus He tells us the upright will be blessed.
