Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.

Prayer

Part Two

To intervene, interpose, pray - to mediate, judge, to intercede

Last time we looked at Solomon’s prayer - do you know YHVH (The LORD) answered him?

2Chr 7:12 Then the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, "I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, 14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 15 Now My eyes shall be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place. 16 For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually…

Truly Awesome!

In part two we begin with Yeshua (Jesus) and His time walking, talking (teaching) and praying with His disciples. Followers of the Lord and Master take notice.

Yeshua (Jesus)

Mt 5:44 "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Mt 6:5 "When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 6 "But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. 7 "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. … 9 "Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name…

Mt 14:23 After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray…

Mt 19:13 Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray…

Mt 21:13 And He said to them, "It is written, ‘MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER ‘…

Mt 26:39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will."

Mt 26:41 "Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Mark 11:25 "Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.

Lu 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "Thou art My beloved Son, in Thee I am well-pleased."

Lu 9:28 Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.

Lu 18:10 "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 'I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.'

13 But the tax-gatherer, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!' 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, but he who humbles himself shall be exalted."

After Yeshua ascended we find His followers praying:

Ac 1:14 These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

Ac 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.

Ac 6:6 And these they brought before the apostles; and after praying, they laid their hands on them.

Ac 8:15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

Ac 9:40 But Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, arise." And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

Ac 10:2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household and gave many alms to the Jewish people and prayed to God continually.4 And fixing his gaze on him and being much alarmed, he said, "What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial before God.

Ac 12:5 So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for him was being made fervently by the church to God.

Ac 16:25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them;

Ac 21:5After kneeling down on the beach and praying, we said farewell to one another.

Ac 28:8and Paul went in to see him and after he had prayed, he laid his hands on him and healed him.

The Apostle Paul and Praying

Ro 8:26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groaning’s too deep for words;

Ro 10:1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation.

Ro 15:30 Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me,

1Co 14:15 What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.

2Co 13:7 Now we pray to God that you do no wrong; …

2Co 13:9 this we also pray for, that you be made complete.

Eph 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Eph 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

Php 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,

Php 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Col 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

Col 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;

1Th 5:17 pray without ceasing;

1Th 5:25 Brethren, pray for us.

2Th 1:11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power,

1Ti 2:8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

1Ti 4:5 for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.

Speaking of Yeshua

Heb 5:7 In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.

James speaks of the need for prayer

Jas 5:13 Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray

Jas 5:14 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

Peter reminds us God hears

1Pe 3:7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

1Pe 3:12 "FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS, AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER…"

1Pe 4:7 The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.

The Apostle John

3Jo 1:2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

The little book of Jude

Jude 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

The Revelation

Re 5:8 When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

Again and again we are admonished to pray

1Ti 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,

Lu 21:36 "But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."

Mt 6:5 "When you pray … 6 But you, when you pray… 7 And when you are praying9 Pray, then, in this way…

Mt 26:41 "Keep watching and praying…

Lu 18:1 …that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,

Rom 12:12 … continuing steadfastly in prayer

Php 4:6 … in everything by prayer and supplication … let your requests be made known to God.

Col 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer…

1Th 5:17 pray without ceasing;

1Pe 3:12 "…AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER…"

Yeshua prayed and told us to pray - the Apostles prayed and told us to pray and to pray for one another.

Proverbs

Prayer

Proverbs 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD,

But the prayer of the upright is His delight.

Saying(s)

"In the Cross is salvation; in the Cross is life; in the Cross is protection against our enemies; in the Cross is infusion of heavenly sweetness; in the Cross is strength of mind; in the Cross is joy of spirit; in the Cross is excellence of virtue; in the Cross is perfection of holiness. There is no salvation of soul, nor hope of eternal life, save in the Cross." Thomas Kempis

That None Should Perish

Principles and Methodology

"By presenting first the biblical principles and then the methodology, I have strived to avoid the common mistake of confusing principles with the methods. God has given us principles not methods. Biblical principles are supra-cultural and timeless. The choice of the method to implement those principles depends on man’s constantly varying perspective and circumstances."

(Ed Silvoso; from his book "That none should perish")

Short Prayers

New Heart

Father, thank You for the new hope You’ve given us in Jesus. Help us to trust You daily as Your Spirit leads us into a whole new way of living.

Thru the valley

O God, when I walk through the valley, You are near me and take away my fear. You comfort me and set before me a feast, and I will dwell in Your house forever. Not for me only but for all You shepherd.

Are You There?

Lord, thank You for the wonderful promise that You’ll be with us always. In the midst of life’s crises and routines, may we learn to rely on Your presence, knowing You are walking with us.

Did you know?

Need for Prayer

A study conducted by Swansea University for the British group Faith Matters has found that UK citizens are increasingly interested in Islam, with the number of converts to Islam nearly doubling in 10 years. An estimated total of 100,000 have converted to Islam, 5,200 of them in 2010.

In 2001, it was estimated that 60,000 British citizens had converted to Islam.

Of the most recent converts, two-thirds are women. Most are white and native to Britain. The average age of new converts is 27.

One in four believe there is a "natural conflict" between being devoutly Muslim and being a British citizen. More than half said they had met with a negative response from family regarding their conversion.

When asked what they believe to be the negative aspects of British society, the converts cited alcohol consumption, "sexual permissiveness," and "unrestrained consumerism."

Similar studies in France and Germany found that approximately 4,000 people convert to Islam each year in both countries...

Father, we pray that Your Spirit will permeate our culture. We ask that Your followers will take the time to lift up their neighbor, their community, their cities, their nation - that all may turn to You for the truth, for forgiveness, for peace, for life. May Your grace, Your love, Your Spirit be with us that we will be a light to others; to show forth the hope of eternal life in Jesus (Yeshua). Amen

Effective Prayer

How much of yourself do you engage when you pray? For God’s Word tells you to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. For it is possible to pray without being fully engaged. Do you want your prayers to be effective? His Word says that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Fervent prayers are not offered while you are distracted. They occur when you are intently focused and involve your mind, will, and emotions, even the position of your body. This is a demanding task, but you have His promise that if you are fully engaged in prayer, your prayers will be effective.

Psalms

Why Pray? He Hears!

Ps 55:16 As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me. 17 Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice. 18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, For there were many against me.

Blessed be YHVH (Genesis 14:20 And blessed be God Most High…)
