Why the Kingdom of God

On Earth?

What is a Kingdom?

Webster 1828 Dictionary

KING'DOM, n. [king and dom, jurisdiction.]

1. The territory or country subject to a king; an undivided territory under the dominion of a king or monarch.

2. The inhabitants or population subject to a king…

3. In natural history, a division; as the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms.

4. A region; a tract; the place where anything prevails and holds sway; as the watery kingdom.

5. In Scripture, the government or universal dominion of God.

6. The power of supreme administration. 1 Sam 18.

7. A princely nation or state. Ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests. Exo 19.

8. Heaven. Mat 26.

9. State of glory in heaven. Mat 5.

10. The reign of the Messiah. Mat 3.

11. Government; rule; supreme administration.

Grasp this: The above definitions of a kingdom will help us* understand the Kingdom of God.

Therefore the kingdom of God is about:

  • God as King
  • His jurisdiction
  • the undivided territory under the dominion of the King
    • the Heavens now - and the earth soon
  • the subjects or The inhabitants or population subject to a king
    • now the spiritual created beings (arch-angels, angels, seraphim in the heavens)
  • the place where He prevails and holds sway
    • soon to come all of humanity
  • the government or universal dominion of God (His domain is all His Creation)

Dominion (Sovereign or supreme authority; the power of governing and controlling.)

  • the power of supreme administration (over which He holds complete authority)

Where is the Kingdom of God now?

  • In Heaven (in Matthew called ‘The Kingdom of Heaven’)

His Kingdom to come on earth will be:

  • The reign of the Messiah - on earth
  • His Government - on earth
  • His rule dominion, authority - on earth
  • His supreme administration on earth with His saints

Therefore we pray (as told us by the Son of God):

Matt 6:9 NKJV "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. # ([Companion Bible notes] For… All the critical texts wrongly omit this doxology; for, out of about 500 codices which contain the prayer, only eight omit it. It is found also in the Syriac, Ethiopic, Armenian, Gothic, Sclavonic, and Georgian Versions.)

The Creator, The God of His Kingdom has a Name proclaiming Him above all other gods:

Exod 3:13 Then Moses said to God, "Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is His name?' what shall I say to them?" 14 And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' (I am what I am’, or ‘I will be what I will be’ - ‘the existing One’ or ‘Eternal One’)

Exod 20:2 " I am the LORD (See below**) your God3 You shall have no other gods before Me.

Isa 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. Isa 43:15 I am the LORD**, your Holy One, The Creator of Israel, your King.

This one true God (YHVH Creator of heaven and earth and all that is in them Genesis Chapter 1) said He created man for a purpose…

Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…"

Thus He created man to be in His image and in His likeness - are we like Him?

YHVH gave man authority and a commission:

Gen 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it (subdue bring into subjection); have dominion (reign / rule) over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

But a Wiley devil of a serpent came along to usurp man’s dominion (authority)

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"

This serpent / deceiver lied

Gen 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die.

So man obeyed the serpent to do its will; giving up his authority to be subject to him

Listen to what Yeshua (Jesus) said about that serpent/devil and to those deceived by him

John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

God’s creation was lied to, deceived, hi-jacked, stolen, by this enemy of God. The earthly creation needed to be redeemed, to be reconciled to its original state (as "in the beginning"). Remember as we wait for the full redemption the Creator Commands us… Exodus 20:3 " You shall have no other gods before Me. Do not listen to the enemy of our soul that reigns over this earth for now.

So God sent prophets to proclaim a redemption that would rectify man’s wretched condition and restore their potential to once again to have reigning ability as children of His Kingdom Family. Many prophets spoke of this coming restoration, this forgiveness, about the coming of God’s Kingdom and His rule on earth.

John the Baptist preached about the first coming of the Redeemer:

Matt 3:1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.'

John 1:15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.' " 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

John 1:23 He said: "I am 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' as the prophet Isaiah said."

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Yes the return to the Kingdom of God was at hand being proclaimed previously by prophets and then by John the Baptist and by Yeshua Himself:

Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 As it is written in the Prophets: … 4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."

Make no mistake the message is clear - If you desire to be in The Kingdom of God, to be part of His reigning family it begins with … the remission of sins… it is all about … the gospel (good news) of the kingdom of God… Repent, and believe in the gospel

This is the message of God’s word to us - A Savior has come

Luke 2:11 "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

John 4:42 Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."

Acts 5:31 "Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

Acts 13:23 "From this man's seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior -- Jesus --

Rev 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

This Savior (Yeshua/Jesus) - This Christ (The anointed One) said (we need to listen)

Matt 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…

By the grace of our Savior we can call God "Our Father" and pray "Thy Kingdom Come".

Next Time "What the Kingdom of God is like".

PSALMS

A Warning

Ps 106:21 They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things …

And A Blessing

Ps 1:1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

LIFE IN MESSIAH

Is life boring?

Have you ever experienced boredom? You may think this comes from insufficient opportunities available to you; an inadequate amount of things to interest you, but that is to focus on externals, as though boredom was imposed on you from without. For you have the promise that the Kingdom of God is within you. Therefore you have access to the things of His Kingdom with you wherever you go, whether there are interesting things going on around you or not. God’s presence dwells within you and if you abide in Him and let your light shine, then interesting things will happen around you as a result.

Individuality?

You strive for individuality, that you might find meaning in having a unique identity. Yet you also look for meaning in life by aligning yourself with something greater than yourself. Do you see that these are conflicting means of reaching the same goal? Yet in the economy of God’s kingdom they can be reconciled. You look for something greater than yourself to give you meaning, and the ‘I am’ is greater than all things. Yet He created you as fearfully and wonderfully made, with your own genetic code, but that is not all. For He has set before you a unique destiny as well, paths of righteousness given to you alone. You will find the meaning and purpose of life by conforming yourself to His will and walking the path He has given you.
