Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.

MESSAGE

The Kingdom of God before Jesus Christ

The Savior (Yeshua/Jesus) - The Christ (Messiah - The anointed One) said

Luke 12:31-32 (NKJV unless indicated)

"But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Before Yeshua came preaching about the Kingdom - YHVH (The LORD) said …

Exodus:6 'And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. ' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."

God’s Kingdom was on earth at the creation of man. It was a paradise garden called Eden - It had everything needed for life eternal (The Tree of Life). YHVH walked and talked with man and gave them everything - He told Adam and Eve to dress and keep the garden, to be fruitful and multiply and subdue the whole earth (that is to make the whole earth like the Kingdom garden).

The only requirement was not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; if they did they would surely die. We read man did eat of that tree in disobedience to their Creator - in other words they sinned; they obeyed the Serpent subjugating themselves to another master. So the righteous Holy God put sin (mankind) out of His kingdom Garden and closed the gate (to His Kingdom). Yet He lovingly had a plan to resolve mankind’s plight. (Genesis chapters 1-3)

The first promise of Redemption and Restoration to The Kingdom of God (the gospel)

To the serpent (the devil) YHVH said…

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

Hebrews 2:14 (The Promised Seed/Savior’s mission)

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself (The Christ) likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

1 John 3:8 (The promised Seed’s purpose - deliverance)

He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Genesis 17:4-6 (The call of Abraham; God’s plan for the Seed)

"As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.

Galatians 3:8 (Gospel preached to Abraham)

And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be blessed."

Galatians 3:16 (the blessing is Christ the Seed)

Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed," who is Christ.

Heb 11:4-10 (The Kingdom message is all a matter of faith)

By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous… 5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"… 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark …and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. (i.e. the gospel, the re-establishment of God’s kingdom on earth)

Gal 3:23-29 (The nations blessed)

But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Therefore God’s promise to Adam was coming to pass through the call of Abraham - the promise of the Seed (the second Adam, The Christ) that would heal the breach for mankind - opening the door or gate to God’s Kingdom on earth.

The saints of the Most High (God’s People) will declare His Kingdom

Ps 145:9 The LORD is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works. 10 All Your works shall praise You, O LORD, And Your saints shall bless You. 11 They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, And talk of Your power, 12 To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, And the glorious majesty of His kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.

From the Book of Daniel we learn much about this coming Kingdom of God

Daniel 2:44 (God’s earthly Kingdom to overall earthly kingdoms)

"And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

Daniel 7:18 (The saints to reign)

'But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.'

Daniel 7:27 (Doubly promised)

Then the kingdom and dominion, And the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, Shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And all dominions shall serve and obey Him.'

Peter verifies Daniel’s Kingdom is the saint’s reward

2 Peter 1:11

for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Messiah (The Christ) will be King - The prophets of old prophesied…

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Matthew 1:23

"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." (Isaiah 7:14)

Isaiah 22:22

The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder; So he shall open, and no one shall shut; And he shall shut, and no one shall open.

Isaiah 63:16

Doubtless You are our Father, Though Abraham was ignorant of us, And Israel does not acknowledge us. You, O LORD, are our Father; Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name.

Isaiah 11:1-2

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

Luke 1:32-33

"He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end."

Jeremiah 23:5

" Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

Did the pre-Yeshua saints have an idea of what the Kingdom was like? Oh yes!

Isa 65:17 " For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.

Isa 65:18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, And her people a joy. 19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem, And joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying. 20 No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; For the child shall die one hundred years old, But the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed. 21 They shall build houses and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22 They shall not build and another inhabit; They shall not plant and another eat; For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the LORD, And their offspring with them.

Isa 65:24 " It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear. 25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, The lion shall eat straw like the ox, And dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain," Says the LORD.

Isaiah 11:6-9 (Kingdom Peace, even the animals)

"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.

Isaiah 55:6 (Therefore)

Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.

Isaiah 61:9 (What about the children of the saints?)

Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles, And their offspring among the people. All who see them shall acknowledge them, That they are the posterity whom the LORD has blessed."

* The use of Us, Our or We, will normally refer to those that have chosen to be the children of God

LIFE IN MESSIAH

You know that it is important to serve God. His word is full of references to serving Him and serving others. He who is greatest in the Kingdom of God is the servant of all, and the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and give His life. Yet His word also says that without holiness no man shall see the Lord. So holiness is another essential aspect of a life that is pleasing to our God. Do you see a unifying basis between these two things? They are both expressions of obedience. The servant obeys his master and carries out his expressed wishes. Those who seek holiness keep the Master’s commandments. Obey Him in all things and you will be a holy servant, a vessel unto honor, equipped for every good work.

Without a doubt God cares about the things of His Kingdom. Do you wonder if He cares about anything else? Do you go to children's soccer games? Yet don't you go to the soccer games of your own children? In God’s word He says that even fathers in this world give good gifts to their children. How much more will your Father in heaven care about every detail of your life? He has placed us in a world filled with mundane details concerning us, yet He tells us not to seek after the things that the gentiles seek, what they may eat and wear and drink. For your Father knows that you have need of these things and will provide them for you, leaving you free to seek the Kingdom of God.

SAYING

"If men used as much care in uprooting vices and implanting virtues as they do in discussing problems, there would not be so much evil and scandal in the world, or such laxity in religious organizations. On the Day of Judgment, surely, we shall not be asked what we have read but what we have done; not how well we have spoken but how well we have lived. Tell me, where now are all the masters and teachers whom you knew so well in life and who were famous for their learning? Others have already taken their places and I know not whether they ever think of their predecessors. During life they seemed to be something; now they are seldom remembered."
― Thoma
s à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ
